Rosaria DeLieto, daughter of Vincenzo DeLieto and Maria Trecozzi, was born on February 5, 1888, at Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte, Reggio Calabria Province, Calabria, Italy. She married Paolo Minniti, son of Nicola Minniti and Filippa Santacroce, on December 29, 1910, at Rizziconi, Reggio Calabria Province, Calabria, Italy. Rosaria died on April 28, 1962, at Lake County Memorial Hospital, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, of a heart attack at age 74. Her body was interred at Shinnston Cemetery, Shinnston, Harrison County, West Virginia.
Rosaria DeLieto, age 26, and her daughter, Filippa Minniti, age ten months, immigrated to the United States on April 26, 1914, traveling to Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. Rosaria was joining her husband Paolo Minniti in Clarksburg. Rosaria was living at Rizziconi, Italy, before immigrating. Rosaria was traveling to the United States with her cousin, Maria Teresa DiLeto Napoli and uncle, Filippo Trecozzi. They arrived in the United States at Ellis Island, New York City, aboard the ship SS Ivernia. Rosaria is listed on the ship manifest as Rosaria DiLeto Minniti.
Paolo Minniti was born on April 22, 1886, at Rizziconi, Italy. Paolo immigrated to the United States on March 15, 1913, aboard the ship SS Madonna. He was traveling to Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia, to join his brother. Paolo passed away on April 9, 1948, at Philippi, Barbour County, West Virginia. He was 61 years old. His body was interred at Shinnston Cemetery, Shinnston, West Virginia.
When Rose arrived in the United States in 1914 she traveled to Clarksburg, West Virginia, to join her husband Paul who was living there.
The Minniti’s were living at North Adams, Bershire County, Massachusetts, when their son Nick was born in 1915. Son Dominic Minniti was also born in North Adams in March 1918.
The family moved to New Jersey later in 1918. Paolo Minniti registered for the World War I draft on September 12, 1918, living in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Paul’s brother Rocco was also living in Jersey City.
The family must have returned to West Virginia in the early 1920’s. Children Rocco, Mary, and Anne were all born in West Virginia between 1921 and 1926.
Daughter Pam was born in New Jersey in March 1929. In April 1930 the Minniti family was enumerated in the 1930 Federal Census living back at North Adams, Massachusetts.
In November, 1930, son James was born in New Jersey. In 1933 daughter Carol was born in West Virginia.
The Minniti family lived at Shinnston, West Virginia, from the early 1930’s until 1950. Rose and son James are enumerated in the 1950 Federal Census living at Harrison County, West Virginia. Rose moved to Painesville in 1950 (after the death of her husband in 1948). At the time of her death, Rosaria resided with her daughter, Mary Kallay, at 630 Bowhall Road, Painesville Township.
The children of Rosaria DeLieto and Paolo Minniti were as follows:
1. Filippa Minniti was born on June 10, 1913, at Rizzicona, Italy. Filippa was named after her paternal grandmother Filippa Santacroce. She married first, Domenico Nocida, son of Fortunato Nocida and Carmella Russo, on September 4, 1932, at Harrison County, West Virginia. Domenico died as a result of stab wounds to the neck and abdomen on November 29, 1932, at Clarksburg, West Virginia, at age 19. Filippa married second, Vincenzo Sansalone, son of Domenico Sansalone and Carolina Yerace, on April 28, 1935, at Harrison County, West Virginia. Filippa died on March 21, 1999, at LakeEast Hospital, Painesville, Ohio, at age 85. Her body was interred at Perry Center Cemetery at Perry, Lake County, Ohio. Filippa’s husband Vincenzo Sansalone passed away in May, 1979, at age 79.
2. Nick Vincent Minniti was born on August 23, 1915, at North Adams, Massachusetts. Nick was named after both his grandfathers, Nicola Minniti and Vincenzo DeLieto. He married Josephine Mancino, daughter of Gabriel and Sarah Mancino, in 1948. Nick died on July 16, 1970, at Lake County Memorial Hospital, Painesville, Ohio, of a heart attack at age 54. His body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Ohio. Nick’s wife Josephine Minniti passed away on May 26, 2011, at age 88.
3. Dominic Minniti was born March 6, 1918, at North Adams, Massachusetts. Dominic died on October 30, 1970, at age 52.
4. Rocco Minniti was born May 26, 1921, at West Virginia. He was probably named after his father’s brother Rocco Minniti. Rocco died in April 1967 at age 45.
5. Mary Minniti was born on June 4, 1923, at West Virginia. She married Joseph Kallay, son of Stephen Kallay and Emma Pasternak, on July 11, 1953 at Lake County, Ohio. Joe Kallay passed away on February 8, 1998, at age 74.
6. Anne Regina Minniti was born on December 11, 1926, at West Virginia. She married Anthony George Zampini, son of Egidio Zampini and Maria Giuseppa DiIorio, on June 25, 1949, at Harrison County, West Virginia. Anne died on October 22, 2023, at her home in Perry, Ohio. Tony Zampini passed away on September 26, 1968, at age 45.
7. Palmina J. Minniti was born on March 23, 1929, at New Jersey. She married Vincent J. Marzano, son of Domenico Marzano and Sarah Catonzaro, on February 23, 1952, at Lake County, Ohio. Vince Marzano passed away on Jun 3, 1996, at age 66. Author’s Note: Vince Marzano was my Confirmation Sponsor.
8. James Minniti was born on November 13, 1930, at New Jersey. He married Theresa Jane Sandora, daughter of Carmine Sandora and Pauline Ferrise. James died on November 24, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia, at age 81. His body was interred at Replete Cemetery, Replete Cemetery, Replete, Webster County, West Virginia.
9. Caroline Minniti was born on January 23, 1933, at West Virginia. She married Richard Kallay, son of Stephen Kallay and Emma Pasternak, on July 11, 1953 at Lake County, Ohio. Dick Kallay passed away on August 28, 2011, at age 84.
