Carlo Colantuono

Carlo Colantuono first appears in the Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, area in 1903.  He moved to Painesville with his wife and children.  In America, Carlo Colantuono was known as Carl Callender.

Carlo Colantuono, son of Francesco Colantuono and Filomena Colantuono, was born about 1869, at Laino, Como Province, Lombardy, Italy.  Carlo married Maria Immacolata Sciarra, daughter of Felice Sciarra and Lucia Tasillo, on November 5, 1887, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Maria Immacolata Sciarra passed away in 1890.  Carlo married second, Teresa Drantino, in 1900, probably in Pennsylvania.  Carlo died on March 28, 1952, at his home, 465 Henry Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, of a gastric hemorhage.  His body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Carlo Colantuono immigrated to the United States in 1894, after the death of his first wife.  He was living in Pennslyvania before moving to northeast Ohio.

On November 10, 1907, Mr. Colantuono shot and killed Robert Shulze.  Mr. Colantuono was a railroad watchman. Robert Shulze was trespassing on railroad property and Carlo shot Shulze in the back.  Carlo was sentenced to prison.  At that time, Carlo had a wife and three children (all under age 5).  While in prison, Carlo’s son, Francesco, passed away.  Mr. Colantuono was released from prison about 1914.

Carlo Colantuono was enumerated for the 1920 Census of the United States, on January 22, 1920, living at Seventh Street, Fairport Village, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  Carlo Colantuono was enumerated as Carral Colamtwone.

Carlo Colantuono was enumerated for the 1930 Census of the United States, on April 15, 1930, living at 465 Henry Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  Carlo Colantuono was enumerated as Carl Callendar.

Carlo Colantuono was enumerated for the 1940 Census of the United States, on April 9, 1940, living at 465 Henry Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  Carlo Colantuono was enumerated as Carlo Coluntone.

When he passed away, Mr. Colantuono was a retired employee of the Fairport, Painesville and Eastern Railroaad Company.

1.   Fannie Colantuono was born on April 28, 1903, at Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.  She married Liborio Pasquarelli, son of Giovanni Pasquarelli and Angela Mezzanotte, on February 17, 1920 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Fannie died in 1995.  Her body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

2.   Francesco Colantuono was born on April 14, 1904, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Francesco died on May 5, 1910, at Storrs Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 6, of acute pneumonia.  His body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

3.   Felix Colantuono was born on June 21, 1907, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  He married Concetta Rich, daughter of Antonio Ricci and Angeline N. Pollutro, on January 25, 1930 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Felix died on September 15, 2009, at Homestead I Nursing Home, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 102.  His body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

4.   Frank Colantuono was born on May 20, 1915, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  He married Helen A. Voytko, daughter of George Voytko and Eva Tomosko, in 1939.  Frank died on July 26, 2004, at LakeMed Nusing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Lake County, Ohio, at age 89.  His body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

5.   Mary Colantuono was born on May 27, 1921, at Ohio.  She married John S. Fazekas, Jr.  Mary died in June, 1983, at age 62.
