Davide Gardella

Davide Gardella first appears at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, in the mid 1910’s.  In America, Davide Gardella was known David Gardella.

Davide Gardella, son of Luigi Gardella, was born on Friday, September 22, 1893, at Neirone, Italy.  He first immigrated to the United States in 1911 and settled in Ohio.  Davide was living at Painesville in May, 1913, when his brother Giovanni Gardella and cousin Antonio Gardella immigrated to the United States.  Davide Gardella is cited on a passenger ship manifest re-entering to the United States on April 16, 1914, at age 20, travelling to Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Mr. Gardella registered for the military draft for World War One on June 5, 1917.  He was living at Detriot, Michigan, and was the proprietor of a cigar and lunch store.

The Gardella Family was one three Painesville Italian families from the Provence of Genoa, Italy.  These families were related by marriage.  Painesville Italian Vittoio DeBarbieri was born in Genoa, Italy, and also operated a confectionery store in Painesville.  Giuseppe Schiappacasse and Andrea Schiappacasse were both born in Neirone, Italy, and lived in Painesville.
