Giovanna Barbera

Giovanna Barbera first appears in the Painesville, Ohio, area in 1921.  In America, Giovanna Barbera was known by her married name, Joanna Dellaria, then, after her second marriage, Joanna Naccarato.

Giovanna Barbera, daughter of Salvatore Barbera and Maria Seggio, was born on September 20, 1885, at Palermo, Sicily.  She married Giovanni Dell’Aria, son of Giovanni Dell’Aria and Maria Lunetta, about 1906 at Italy.  After the death (in 1941) of her first husband, she married second, Angelo Naccarato.  Giovanna died on March 27, 1948, at her son’s home, 562 Sanders Avenue, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 62, of cardio-vascular disease.  Her body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Giovanna Barbera, age 35, immigrated to the United States on February 9, 1921, travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, joining her husband, Giovanni Dell’Aria.  Giovanna was travelling with her son, Giuseppe.   Three of Giovanna’s sisters were already living in Painesville.  Rosa (Profeta) moved to Painesville in 1909, Concetta (Inchiostro) in 1913, and Carmella (Seggio) in 1914. 

At the time of death, Giovanna resided at 14529 Kinsman Road, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

The children of Giovanna Barbera and Giovanni Dell’Aria were as follows:

1.   Giuseppe Dell’Aria was born on December 30, 1909, at Caltanissetta, Sicily.  He first married Beryle LaBail, daughter of John LaBail.  He married second Clara Nakles.  Giuseppe died on January 18, 1990, at Garfield Manor Nursing Home, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 80.  His body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

2.   Mary Dell’Aria was born about 1927, at Ohio.  She married Michael Geraci.
