Giuseppe Tomba

Giuseppe Tomba first appears at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, in 1963.  Giuseppe and his wife, Filomena Colaciello, moved to Painesville, Ohio, from West Virginia.  Their sons, Cosmo Tomba and Nick Tomba, were living in Painesville in 1963.  In America Giuseppe Tomba was known Joseph Tomba.

Giuseppe Tomba, son of Cosmo Tomba and Maria Assunta DiIorio, was born on April 19, 1897, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Giuseppe married Filomena Colaciello, daughter of Nicola Maria Colaciello and Maria Teresa Colaneri, about 1920, at Frosolone, Italy.  Giuseppe Tomba died on November 8, 1982, at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan.  His body was interred at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

Giuseppe Tomba first immigrated to the United States on November 12, 1923, at age 26.  He was travelling to Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia.  Giuseppe was joining his brother, Cristino Tomba, in West Virginia.  He arrived in the United States at the Port of Boston, Massachusetts, aboard the ship SS Arabic.

Giuseppe Tomba is cited on a passenger ship manifest re-entering the United States on June 26, 1928, at age 31.  He was travelling to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Giuseppe arrived in the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Colombo.

Giuseppe Tomba was enumerated for the 1930 Census of the United States, in 1930, living at Westover, Monongalia County, West Virginia, as a brother of Nicola Tomba. Giuseppe Tomba was enumerated as Joseph Tomba.

Giuseppe Tomba’s wife, Filomena Colaciello, and children, Filomena Assunta Tomba and Cosmo Tomba, immigrated to the United States in 1930. They joined Giuseppe in West Virginia.

Giuseppe Tomba was enumerated for the 1940 Census of the United States, in 1940, living at Westover, Monongalia County, West Virginia, as a head of household.  Giuseppe Tomba was enumerated as Joseph Tomba.

Giuseppe Tomba was widowed by the death of his wife, Filomena Colaciello, on January 31, 1979, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

Mr. Tomba was a retired coal miner.

The five known children of Filomena Colaciello and Giuseppe Tomba were as follows:

1.   Filomena Assunta Tomba was born on September 9, 1921, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Filomena married Louis Marco in 1946, at Monongalia County, West Virginia.

2.   Cosmo Tomba was born about 1924, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Cosmo married Nicolina Terriaca in 1952.

3.   Nick J. was born on February 23, 1931, at Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia.

4.   Domenick Tomba was born on August 12, 1932, at Granville, Monongalia County, West Virginia, West Virginia. Domenick Tomba died on October 20, 1932, at Monongalia County, West Virginia.

5.   Laura Tomba was born on August 30, 1934, at Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. Laura was married to Phillip Padula.
