Lucia Bassoli

Lucia Bassoli first appears in the Painesville, Ohio, area in 1921.  In America, Lucia Bassoli was known by her married name, Lucy Valocchi.

Lucia Bassoli, daughter of Giovanni Bassoli and Maria Cortsi, was born on May 30, 1896, at Modena, Italy.  She married Mattia Valocchi, son of Pietro Valocchi and Sarafina Romani, on July 15, 1921 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  She died on August 4, 1938 at The University Hospitals, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, at age 42 of lung cancer.  Her body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Lucia Bassoli, age 24, immigrated to the United States on December 14, 1920, travelling to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, joining her betrothed, Giovanni Borgu.  A marriage license was issued to Lucia Bassoli and Giovanni Borgu on December 20, 1920 at Cuyahoga County, Ohio.  For some reason, the marriage the marriage did not occur.  Seven months later Lucia married Mattia Valocchi.

At the time of her death, Lucia resided at 325 Sanford Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

There were no children of Lucia Bassoli and Mattia Valocchi.  Mattia was a widower with a six year old daughter (Edith) when he married Lucia in 1921.
