Mattia Valocchi

Mattia Valocchi, and his wife, Filomena Acciaso, first appear in the Painesville, Ohio, in 1915.  They were living in Fairport Harbor. In America, Mattia Valocchi was known as Martin Valocchi.

Mattia Valocchi, son of Pietro Valocchi and Sarafina Romani, was born on May 14, 1889, at Campli, Italy.  He married Filomena Acciaso, daughter of Domenico Acciaso, about 1913 in Italy.  Filomena passed away in 1918.  Mattia married second, Lucia Bassoli, daughter of Giovanni Bassoli and Maria Cortsi, on July 15, 1921 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Mattia died on June 7, 1942, at Lake County Memorial Hospital, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 53, as a result of an automobile accident.  His body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Mattia Valocchi, age 16, immigrated to the United States on March 27, 1906, travelling to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, joining his father, Pietro.  He returned to Italy to serve in the Italian Army to fight in the Turko-Italian War.  Mattia is shown as re-entering the United States on April 11, 1914, traveling to Philadelphia, rejoining his father.  Martin Valocchi became a citizen of the United States on June 20, 1927. Martin resided at 370 Sanford Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, when he was Naturalized.

Three of Mattia brothers also lived in Painesville, Ohio.  Vitale Valocchi migrated to Painesville in 1913.  Nazareno came to Painesville in 1917, and  Geremia, in 1920.

Mattia was employed by the old Painesville Gas Company from 1917 to 1922.  In 1932 he opened a cafe on Liberty Street in Painesville.  In 1934 he opened Valmar restaurant in Painesville.  In 1934 he built the Rayon View Inn in Painesville Township.  In 1939, Martin founded the Mar-Val bowling center in Painesville.

At the time of death, Mattia resided at 352 Sanford Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

     The children of Mattia1 Valocchi and Filomena Acciaso were as follows:

                     1.   Edith VALOCHHI was born on June 8, 1915, at Fairport Harbor, Lake County, Ohio.  She married James Nucciarone, son of Antonio Nucciarone and Mary Cardina, on September 10, 1935 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Edith died on January 27, 1989, at LakeEast Hospital, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 73.  Her body was interred at Riverside Cemetery at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

                 2.   George VALOCCHI was born on February 18, 1917, at Ohio.  George died on June 19, 1918, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, at age 16 months of cholera infantum.  His body was interred at St. Mary Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

     There were no children of Mattia Valocchi and Lucia Bassoli.
