Giuseppe Cardegna first appears at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, in 1897.  He was nine years old.  When Giuseppe immigrated to the United States, Painesville, Ohio, was his destination.  He was accompanied by her mother, Teresa DiCristofaro, and sister, Anna Antonia Cardegna.  They were joining Giuseppe’s father, Nicandro Cardegna, in Painesville.  In America Giuseppe Cardegna was known Joseph N. Cardina or Joe Ross (pronounced Joe Rose).

Giuseppe Cardegna, son of Nicandro Cardegna and Teresa DiCristofaro, was born on February 18, 1888, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Giuseppe married Giuditta Palumbo, daughter of Michele Arcangelo Palumbo and Maria Carmina Padula, on November 27, 1920, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Giuditta Palumbo was also born at Frosolone, Italy.  Giuseppe Cardegna died on January 16, 1977, at 868 North State Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, of a myocardial infarction.  His body was interred at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Giuseppe Cardegna immigrated to the United States on May 27, 1897, at age 9.  He was travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Giuseppe was joining his father, Nicandro Cardegna, in Painesville.  He entered the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Burgundia.

Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated for the 1900 Census of the United States, on June 22, 1900, living at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a son of Nicandro Cardegna.  Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated as Joseph Gardegno.

Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated for the 1910 Census of the United States, on April 23, 1910, living at Fairport Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a son of Nicandro Cardegna.  Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated as Joe Cardina.

Joseph N. Cardina registered for the World War I Draft on June 5, 1917.  He was living at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio. He was single, and was employed as a teamster for the Storrs and Harrison Nursery Company.

Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated for the 1920 Census of the United States, on January 9, 1920, living at Fairport-Nursery Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a son of Nicandro Cardegna.  Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated as Joseph Cardegna.

Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated for the 1930 Census of the United States, on April 16, 1930, living at Fairport Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  His name was recorded as Joseph M. Cardina.

Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated for the 1940 Census of the United States, on April 4, 1940, living at State Route 535, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household. Giuseppe Cardegna was enumerated as Joe N. Cardina.

Giuseppe Cardegna was widowed by the death of his wife, Giuditta Palumbo, on January 8, 1968, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

Giuseppe was employed by the Storrs and Harrisons Nursery Company from the late 1890’s (at 10 or 11 years old) until the 1930’s. He eventually became their lead teamster. He was employed by the Diamond Alkali Company from the 1930’s until he retired in 1961.

There were no known children of Giuseppe Cardegna and Giuditta Palumbo.
