Filippo Cardegna

Filippo Cardegna, son of Michaelangelo Cardegna and Orazia Zampini, was born on May 7, 1870, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  His name is recorded as “Michele dico Filippo” on his birth record.  Filippo was baptized on May 7, 1870 at Santa Pietro Apostolo Chiesa, Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Filippo married Vittoria Maria Filomena DiMuzio, daughter of Domenico Antonio DiMuzio and Seopoldina DiTella, on February 16, 1902, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy. He was widowed by the death of Vittoria Maria Filomena DiMuzio about 1912, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Filippo married Maria Mangione, daughter of Liborio Mangione and Francesca Preziuso, on April 2, 1914, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Filippo died on August 18, 1947, at St. Thomas Hospital, Akron, Summit County, Ohio, of pneumonia. His body was interred at Holy Cross Memorial Park, Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

Filippo Cardegna immigrated to the United States on June 8, 1896, at age 26. He was travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Filippo entered the United State at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Alesia.  He was travelling with fellow Frosolonesi Giacomo Palumbo and Leanardo Iovine.  Filippo Cardegna became a citizen of the United States in 1900 at Lake County, Ohio.  Filippo returned to Italy in 1902.

Filippo Cardegna is cited on a passenger ship manifest re-entering the United States on October 28, 1904, at age 34, travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  He was joining his cousin, Felice Mainella in Painesville.  Filippo entered the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Konigen Luise.

Filippo Cardegna is cited on a passenger ship manifest re-entering the United States on March 23, 1909, at age 38, travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Filippo entered the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Ancona.

Filippo Cardegna was enumerated for the 1910 Census of the United States, on April 23, 1910, living at Henry Street, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, as a cousin of Michele Arcangelo Cardegna.  His name was is recorded as Felippa Cardine.

Filippo Cardegna is cited on a passenger ship manifest re-entering the United States on October 3, 1914, at age 44, travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  He was traveling to Painesville, Ohio, to join his cousin Nicandro Cardegna.  Filippo entered the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Napoli.

Filippo Cardegna moved to in Akron, Summit County, Ohio about 1914.   Filippo’s sons, Giuseppe Cardegna and Giuseppe Cardegna, joined him in Akron in the 1920’s.  At the time of death, Filippo resided at 592 Robinett Court, Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

The only known child of Filippo Cardegna and Vittoria Maria Filomena DiMuzio was:

1.   Michele Cardegna was born on August 3, 1911, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy. Michele Cardegna died on December 15, 2002, at Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

The two known children of Filippo Cardegna and Maria Mangione were as follows:

1.   Giuseppe Cardegna was born on June 6, 1921, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy. Giuseppe married Angelina DiSaia, daughter of Felicantonio DiSaia and Maria Pasqua Zampini, on September 15, 1945, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Giuseppe Cardegna died on June 27, 1992, at Akron, Ohio.

2.   Francesco Domenico was born on September 21, 1923, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.
