Leonardo Antonio Iovine

Leonardo Antonio Iovine first appears in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio in 1896.  He probably migrated to Painesville in 1896 shortly after he immigrated to the United States.  His brothers-in-law, Nicandro Cardegna, Cosmo Cardegna, and Bartolomeo Colavecchio had already established residense in Painesville.  In America, Leonardo Iovine was known as Leonard Iovine.

Leonardo Antonio Iovine, son of  Euniddio Iovine and Nicola Gizzi, was born on November 1, 1870, at Castelnuovo, Italy.  He married Domenica DiCristofaro, daughter of Nicola DiCristofaro and Maria Palangio, on September 26, 1889, at Frosolone, Italy.

Leonardo Iovine, age 25, first immigrated to the United States on June 8, 1896, travelling to Troy, New York.  He was travelling with fellow Frosolonesi, Filippo Cardegna and Giacomo Palumbo.  By 1896, Leonardo had three brothers-in-law living in Painesville, Ohio.  Cosmo Cardegna, Nicandro Cardegna, and Bartolomeo Colavecchio; all four men were married to daughters of Nicola DiCristofaro and Maria Palangio.

Leonardo Iovine made at least additional two “trips” from Italy to the United States (in 1901 and 1909).  In 1909 his two children Maria Assunta Iovine and Angelo Iovine immigrated to Painesville from Italy.  Leonardo permanently returned to Italy sometime in the early 1910’s.

The children of Leonardo Iovine and Domenica DiCristofaro (both born at Castelnuovo, Italy) were as follows:
