Giovanni Scacciavillani, son of Felice Scacciavillano and Maria Giovanna Vitolone, was born on March 30, 1885, at Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  He was baptized on March 30, 1885 at Santa Nicola Chiesa, Frosolone, Isernia Province, Molise, Italy.  Giovanni married Anna Antonia Cardegna, daughter of Nicandro Cardegna and Teresa DiCristofaro, on December 14, 1905, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Anna Antonia Cardegna was also born at Frosolone, Italy. Giovanni Scacciavillani died on September 3, 1962, at his daughter’s home, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, due to carcinoma of the pancreas.  His body was interred at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Giovanni Scacciavillani immigrated to the United States on October 16, 1900, at age 15.  He was travelling to Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Giovanni was joining his brother, Domenico Scacciaviallni, in Painesville. He entered the United States at the Port of New York City aboard the ship SS Alsatia.

Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated for the 1910 Census of the United States, on April 23, 1910, living at Fairport Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a son-in-law of Nicandro Cardegna.  Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated as John Square.

Giovanni Scacciavillani registered for the World War I Draft on September 12, 1918.  He was living at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, and he was employed as a loader in the mill room for the Diamond Alkali Company of Fairport.

Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated for the 1920 Census of the United States, on January 9, 1920, living at Fairport-Nursery Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated as John Schacciovalianni.

Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated for the 1930 Census of the United States, on April 16, 1930, living at Fairport Road, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, as a head of household.  Giovanni Scacciavillani was enumerated as John Square.

John Square owned and operated the John Square Nursery from 1922 until his death.  He had previously worked for Storrs and Harrison Nursery Company and the Diamond Alkali Company.

Giovanni Scacciavillani’s siblings, Domenico Scacciavillani, Giuseppe Scacciavillani, Donato Scacciavillani, Teresa Maria Scacciavillani, and Nicola Scacciavillani, lived in Painesville, Ohio.  His brother-in-law, Cristofaro DiCristofaro, also lived in Painesville.

The seven known children of Anna Antonia Cardegna and Giovanni Scacciavillani were as follows:

1.   Felix John Square was born on August 15, 1906, at his parent’s home on North State Street at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Felix married Lena Grandstaff on August 24, 1953, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Felix John Square died on January 23, 1989, at Sycamore Shoales Hospital, Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee.  His body was interred at Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee.

2.   Mary Square was born on November 30, 1907, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Mary married Christopher Dorazio on June 26, 1927, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Mary Square died on March 27, 1942, at her parent’s home, Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, of breast cancer.  Her body was interred at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

3.   Theresa Ann Square was born on September 6, 1910, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Theresa married Angelo Michele Pisani, son of Sabastiano Pisani and Clementina Fiella, on April 29, 1948, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Theresa Ann Square died on November 22, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Care Home, Prescott, Yavapdi County, Arizona.  Her body was interred at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.

4.   Margaret Square was born on March 14, 1913, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Margaret married Ugo Torre, son of Nunzio Torre and Giuseppa Puglisi, on June 17, 1937, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Margaret Square died on April 17, 1946, at home on Fairport-Nursery Road at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio, of cancer of the left breast.  Her body was interred at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery at Painesville Township, Lake County, Ohio.

5.   Jeanette Rose Square was born on January 10, 1916, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Jeanette married Albert B. Gargano, son of Antonio Gargano and Carmella Marandino, on July 3, 1947, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Jeanette Rose Square died on April 19, 2010, at Rose Lane Adult Care Home, Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona.  Her body was interred at Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery, Dewey, Yavapai County, Arizona.

6.   Nicholas Joseph Square was born on December 1, 1919, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. Nicholas married Jeanne Rand on May 1, 1941, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Nicholas Joseph Square died on October 28, 1991, at LakeEast Hospital, Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, of prostate cancer.  His body was interred at North Madison Cemetery at Madison, Lake County, Ohio.

7.   Charles Edward Square was born on August 30, 1922, at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio.  Charles married Freda Nelson on July 12, 1952, at Oakland, Alameda County, California.  Charles Edward Square died on May 2, 2001, at Peninsula Hospital, Burlingame, San Mateo County, California, from prostate cancer.  Charles Square’s remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean three miles west of the Golden Gate, San Francisco, California.
